I restarted from a Solus freeze a few minutes ago. I had opened 2 links in new tabs in Firefox, then it started glitching. I was able to move the cursor around, but Menu, Calendar didn't open. I had to hold the power button and forcefully shut down my laptop. This has been happening at least once a week for the last 2 months I think.
I feel like it might be a touchpad issue, I've noticed my touchpad isn't as responsive/accurate as before.

Hi @DataDrake I don't know how to install the driver from the tar.gz file.
I was hoping it would work out of the box in the next iso refresh, maybe with Solus 4.2 ?
Mar 7 2020
Ok, thanks!

I had Bluetooth turned off, with Blueman applet unticked in Startup Applications.
I restarted Solus, then opened Bluetooth Adapters, which didn't say I needed to turn on Bluetooth, showing visibility set to Hidden.
So your suggestion appears to work, but really Bluetooth is still on in a hidden state.
After installing yesterday's updates including Mate 1.24, and then restarting, I saw this:
When I pressed the keyboard Bluetooth button to disable it, it showed it had been enabled, instead of disabled, which was confusing.
I also don't use Bluetooth on my laptop, so I wanted to keep it disabled and not see the Bluetooth icon after every restart. This way it reduces power usage. Maybe that could become the default for all Solus editions, that Bluetooth is disabled.
And before, I have disabled Bluetooth, then unticked it in Startup Applications, but after restarting Solus, my phone shows my laptop's Bluetooth is still on. I'll try this again and tell you what happens !
My theme info is the following:
Controls: Arc-Darker
Window Border: Arc-Darker
Icons: Arc
Pointer: Breeze
Was this fixed by 25787c1e3814 ?

This happened before yesterday's updates, after I had restarted. Usually I see the Bluetooth icon showing it's enabled, but I noticed what I saw in the screenshot above.
After installing yesterday's updates and restarting, it showed normally:
Is there any way to restart and not see the Bluetooth icon, but still have it disabled ? I've set it so it doesn't show, but Bluetooth is still enabled. So every time I restart, I press the Bluetooth button on my keyboard to disable it, then right-click the icon and press Exit.

@DataDrake that file shows an error when I open with Archive Manager, on my ThinkPad laptop with Solus 4.1 Mate.
Error:
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
I booted a Solus 4.1 Mate Live USB on a Dell Inspiron 1545 and I saw this:
It shows firmware files "b43/ucode15.fw" and "b43-open/ucode15.fw" were not found.

Thanks @paracetamol ! After running those 2 commands, my time is correct after restarting, just that it's 10 seconds behind now.
Going to Time and Date settings and choosing Europe/Dublin fixes it to exact time, which I'd have to do after every restart if I want exact time.
Looks like just opening Time and Date settings fixed it to exact time, that's not so bad 🙂
In summary, the 4 commands to run to fix this problem are:
- sudo rm /var/lib/systemd/timesync
- sudo systemctl restart systemd-timesyncd.service
- sudo systemctl enable systemd-timesyncd.service
- sudo systemctl start systemd-timesyncd.service
Jan 19 2020
After restarting, the problem is back ! I tried to run the first command (sudo rm /var/lib/systemd/timesync) but I see this error:
rm: cannot remove '/var/lib/systemd/timesync': Is a directory
Thanks @Girtablulu and @JoshStrobl !
Running these 2 commands in Terminal fixed my time:
- sudo rm /var/lib/systemd/timesync
- sudo systemctl restart systemd-timesyncd.service
I had this restart/shut down problem before. May be related to the systemd update ?
And the time getting messed up must be specific to Solus Mate.

I no longer see tearing when dragging Firefox tabs !
Maybe the mesalib update from 19.2.6 to 19.3.1 fixed this. Thanks !

After playing Diablo 2 on Windows 10, my headphones stopped playing sound again in Solus !
This time when I booted into my Peppermint 10 Live USB, sound didn't play on my headphones there.
Fortunately, after booting back into Solus, sound plays fine.
Is there any way this can be investigated and fixed ?
Dec 29 2019
Now sound is playing fine through my headphones on Solus, after I booted a Peppermint 10 Respin Live USB where my headphones worked as expected !
Nov 22 2019
I booted my Peppermint 10 Live USB on my laptop which has a NVMe SSD, and SMART Data was greyed out.
So I guess it's not a Solus bug !
Nov 18 2019
@DataDrake I'm having this problem. Can this be reopened ?
Nov 10 2019
@DataDrake, I have an old Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop with Broadcom BCM4312 shown as the network controller after running lspci in Terminal.
I booted a Solus 3 Mate Live USB and my wifi wasn't listed.
I activated the driver in Hardware Drivers/DoFlicky and logged out and back in.
There were some wifi names listed but not my home wifi.
I booted a Peppermint 10 Live USB and my wifi was listed and connected fine with that Linux distro.
Can this be fixed for the Solus Live session ? Or would it work while connected to the internet via Ethernet cable ?
Nov 7 2019
Yes I'm on Solus Mate which I installed from the Solus 3 iso.
Yes, it's still happening in Firefox 70. I think it's due to a custom Solus Firefox configuration.
Oct 14 2019
Thanks, this is fixed for me now !
Same as T8409 There's a fix for it.
Looks like it will be fixed by D7399

I'm also having this problem on Solus Mate:
I have to click Cancel twice to close it, both for Restart and Shut Down.

Mesa 19.1.6 is now the latest stable version.
Aug 30 2019
Looks like it's fixed for me now, thanks!

On Solus Mate, I installed the update for system-tools-backends, and now I was finally able to access time and date settings and fix the time zone, thanks a lot !
Edit 1: I did not have to restart or log out and log in again :)
Edit 2: I think for the setting to be remembered after restart, I had to unlock time settings, choose the correct time zone, then lock time settings. But when I restart, my time is the wrong time and then adjusts to the right time, which is a 1 hour difference.
Edit 3: I noticed the time shown on my lock screen is 1 hour behind !

Firefox 67.0.4 was released today!
Jun 7 2019
Ok, thanks for all your work !
Hi Josh,
On https://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox/Channels/Meetings/2019-06-06, it shows:
67.0.1 at 100% for Windows, 0% for Linux/macos (because of https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1556612)
Starting Firefox in safe mode causes Firefox to think I have launched a too-old version of Firefox on next launch
Comment 1 says: Users will be blocked from using their profile if they ever use safe-mode.
Is this of any concern ?

MATE 1.22 was announced yesterday, I'll update the task description here.
Mar 13 2019
I noticed this just now:
Getting closer to being announced !
Mar 8 2019
Haha nice!
The item remaining is "Improve Metacity support" but Marco, which is a fork of Metacity, is already tagged at version 1.22.0.
Yeah I'll update this task with the blog post once it's announced !
Feb 26 2019
@feuerstein I tried it now in Chrome on Solus Mate, since it doesn't work in Firefox. It worked fine for me detecting English (UK). Maybe you have to change the language or it's because of your hardware ?
Feb 23 2019
Ok, just thought it might help to show the latest information.
@JoshStrobl, @Jacalz changed the name and you didn't say anything.
Feb 14 2019
CVE-2019-3819 was also fixed here.
CVE-2019-3819 was not part of 4.9.156, that was for 4.20.8 (57785a6f3d47).

New Solus users might not figure this out themselves, so is there a help centre page (https://getsol.us/help-center/home/) which shows how to fix this for AppImage files ?

What about dav1d, the AV1 decoder ? http://www.jbkempf.com/blog/post/2018/Introducing-dav1d
- source code of dav1d is 1/10th of lines of code compared to libaom
- its weight is 1/3rd of the binary size of libaom
- 1/4th of the memory usage of libaom

I don't know how to do that, Google Translate shows: အသစ်ကပုဂ္ဂလိကပြတင်းပေါက်
font-lateed-ttf should be font-lateef-ttf e24809697fca
It's an Arabic script font covered by Noto Sans: https://www.google.com/get/noto/#sans-arab

Dec 9 2018
@JoshStrobl
I found Noto Sans Gothic here: https://www.google.com/get/noto/#sans-goth (8.7 KB)
I downloaded the zip file, opened the ttf file which opened with Mate Font Viewer and clicked Install thinking it would not work.
Seems it worked fine, and I can see Gothic characters now!
On https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%F0%90%8D%86%F0%90%8C%B0%F0%90%8C%B9%F0%90%8C%B7%F0%90%8C%BF%F0%90%8C%B2%F0%90%8C%B4%F0%90%8C%B9%F0%90%8D%82%F0%90%8D%89#Gothic I see this:
But now I can't uninstall the font ! Font Viewer doesn't have an uninstall option, and there are no results when I search for the ttf file.
I also installed Noto Sans CJK SC by mistake.

@kyrios123 I'm using jack headphones.
Now my headphones work fine!
I tried a Solus 3.9999 Mate and Plasma LiveUSB, headphones didn't work there.
Then after booting into Solus from the F-12 menu with headphones connected, sound played.
I restarted with headphones disconnected and when I plugged them in, sound worked fine!
I disconnected and connected the headphones now and the sound icon disappeared from the notification area!
Sound preferences only show Speakers as an option under Output.
When I use Test Speakers, it plays through the speakers.

Disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox did not help.
Oct 17 2018
I've done a fresh install of Solus 3 Mate on a new ThinkPad E480 and I don't have this problem now.
It may be affecting other Solus users who installed an older iso version originally.
Oct 16 2018
This happened on my old Dell Inspiron 15R N5010, but now I have a new laptop.
On my ThinkPad E480 only thing I noticed is holding the brightness up/down button on the keyboard changes the brightness quite slowly.
When I tried a Live USB of a KDE Plasma-based distro, the brightness changed much faster.
I've bought a new laptop, done a fresh install of Solus 3 Mate, and I have not experienced this issue.
But it may still be affecting @waddon1 and others.
