Yeap, solved. both, stable and unstabled was enabled since I needed the 4.12 kernel for some new usb-c functionality earlier, and forgot it was still enabled. Now on stable only, updating w/o problems! Thanks!

So, my 4.12 theory holds true. The Aukey works with USB-C using Solus linux-current (4.12.3), the led of the case starts lighting up and mounts. If booting with 4.9 it goes back to old not working.
The Orico case with USB-C does not work, but I'd say this thing is a POS ;) Aukey has arguably a better reputation of building products that do something useful...

Well, while setting up the account, I got "Error connecting to ownCloud server, The signing certificate authority is not known", and I could click "Ignore". I assumed this is the message for a self signed certificate.
But when trying to access the NextCloud folder I get the message "Unable to access server xxxx, HTTP Error: Unacceptable TLS certificate"
So no window with "Trust this certificate anyway" popped up.

So I use a single account, multiple calendars but never had that account expired thingy...
Also just deleted and readded my whole google account. Nothing changes...
Same thing here: calendar doesn't sync with google. Logged into online accounts, calendar is ticked, but solus calendar is empty. If I add an calendar entry in solus, nothing pops up in google. I get no errors, tried turning of and on, no change.
Just wondering, are you guys using just a single default calender? Or do you have multiple calendars in the google?

Well, the Aukey DS-B6 with C to C cable makes the LED light up, drive spinning but nothing shows up in lsusb:
Will post the lsusb output.
But just found this, typec functionality only implemented from kernel 4.12 on:

Regardless of whether you find it confusing, this is why we have the system.devel component :P

I've got a stupid question. Compiled gromacs myself, as the current version 2016.3 introduced a little cmake bug that canned all the AVX/2 flags for the fftw part (already fixed for the upcoming version). But as far as dependencies go, a plain solus needs cmake, make, glibc and linux kernel headers, but linux-lts-headers (4.9.26) doesn't work, I need linux-headers (4.9.25), but linux-lts (4.9.26) also says in the description is headers. I'm confused. Why different and multiple versions exist of the same thing?

Two dependencies are missing for a virgin install of solus:
