I mentioned this on reddit, but cryptostorm offers a free, limited bandwidth VPN called cryptofree. Configs here: https://github.com/cryptostorm/cryptostorm_client_configuration_files/tree/master/cryptofree
sorry, I gave a quick look but must have missed this report before posting. Thanks for merging.

Security by obscurity is terrible on its own, but setting strong permissions is netsec 101. I don't see why that change would be made, especially when it makes ufw complain.

I just had this happen when setting up Solus Mate on my mother's laptop (she got sick of Windows). Threw me for a complete loop. Didn't even think to try a blank password until I found this.

I honestly don't see how ecryptfs was considered end of life when most major distributions provide the option to use it in their installers. Seems like an essential piece of software for those who do not wish to encrypt their whole drive, or for machines with multiple users. The cli tools are especially easy to use, and you can easily set up your home directory to unencrypt on login.

https://github.com/jonathanio/update-systemd-resolved is considered a more appropriate fix by the maintainer of the above package. I was also getting an Ubuntu-style DNS leak using NetworkManager+OpenVPN. update-systemd-resolved seems to have... resolved the issue.
