@STiAT Sounds tricky, especially given that a lot of stuff in Python and R uses CUDA - all the scientific computing nowadays depend on that.

Would there be a scope to have multiple GCC versions in Solus? CUDA 9 supports GCC 6.x but what if Solus moves to GCC 7.x? CUDA is usually used by professionals that need a stable environment for work. As far as I remember Arch creates a symbolic link in /opt/cuda to older GCC. Seems pretty simple but I might be wrong.

No point in keeping it open.. Will try Solus in a year, thanks for support!

Thanks!
Quick question to @JoshStrobl - why is it OK to have so many browsers in the shop (Firefox, Chrome, Vivaldi, Midori, Opera, Gnome Web, QupZilla, Uzbl [??]) but it is not possible to have 3 office suites?
@fastrizwaan I could install Windows in VB but I might as well have Windows in this case - I really would like to stick to open source and linux but the office is making it difficult.
Perhaps we could ask @ikey to look at this - CUDA is really essential for a lot of people and this topic was opened a year ago. It's also not something that can be replaced by already available packages.

For me, even on a quite high end desktop (8 Cores, 64 GB, EVO Pro 950, Dual Titan X) LibreOffice is slow to open, keeps crashing, the UI does not scale well with a 4K screen, and compatibility with MS Office is abysmal (I collaborate a lot and need to borrow a Mac just to fix the formatting every other day..).

Cuda 9 will support Clang 3.9 and GCC 6. Will this make it possible to include in Solus?

@JoshStrobl any chance you could have a look at this when you have a moment? Seems there is a lot of interest in the browser but not from people who know how to package it. For whatever reason Brave is literally 2-3 times faster for me than Firefox, would be nice to have it in the official app centre. Thanks in advance!
Wow, thanks a lot for the fast patch!

Would be great if Brave was added. They incorporate many privacy features that are not obvious for people (like canvas blocking etc) plus probably because the adblocking etc is build in it turns out faster.
The kernel parameter fixes the problem. Everyone using Samsung NVMe SSDs will have to put in manually though. Thanks for the instructions @sunnyflunk

Thank you so much @sunnyflunk for a fast fix! It was crashing the pipeline I had set up on top of R so really appreciate this.
Many thanks @sunnyflunk I will try the kernel parameter. No clue about kernel patches so will go with the cmdline.

Anyone? I tried
Nobody? Would really appreciate some help as working in R became really problematic with this. Tested on a fresh install and same happens.
