The use case for this is when a university student taking an IBM System Z mainframes course, or when a system/business logic programmer for one of the top 100 banks in the world (or Walmart, or $MegaCorp) needs to access their company's mainframe, they don't want to have to switch to Mac or Windows or install a commercial proprietary piece of software to do it.
