@sunnyflunk I actually did reinstall gzip after the first time I saw that, and the error persisted. As for broken packages, only yarn was broken apparently.
Launching with --disable-gpu, it still crashes. Appears to be related to gzip.

Never mind. Happens frequently in highly interactive websites like huobi.

To the people in favour of installing via snap, the fonts look like ass, specially hiragana.

@DataDrake Unlikely. It is active but like you said, they gave up on making tagged releases a while ago.
Nov 29 2017
Somewhat resolved. Still have to --disable-gpu but it's far more stable and I'll maybe experience one crashed tab a day, if that.

Funny that this became a priority exactly a day after it happened to me.

Can you post the bug report (opensuse's, chromium's or both)? Their bug trackers are a clusterfuck.
Ohhh, good to know. Thanks for the update.
Yeah, it's been getting worse. Something is really broken. Even files segfaults occasionally. Probably glibc.

No idea what happened but it stopped happening after I switched to unstable.

I'm using the stock (linux-current) kernel (IIRC it's the amdgpu-si).
When I update to the new mesalib, solus doesn't boot up. I can't even use ctrl+alt+f1, it just freezes and stays black.
GCN 1.0 GPUs like the 280x/7970ghz/7970.
Radeonsi.

It looks very, very promising, but it needs to be built with extension support and, as far as I can tell (based on my own experience), it's still very buggy with AMD GPUs. Also comes with a myriad of platform independent bugs. Personally, I would consider this alpha software.

@ikey Any chance you could look into this?
May 29 2017
The issue was that the print was automagically (god knows why) disabled. It happened on my aunt's desktop as well and all I had to do was reactivate it. That's why readding it works.
May 25 2017
I don't know what's been causing this, but it affects all instances of chrome and derivatives like electron based clients (eg: discord).
Another example:
May 21 2017
Yeah, compositor has been consistently segfaulting first, which then causes a myriad of random crashes across the board (discord, chrome, but mostly chrome).

Thanks! Done!
Can I disable the service with no repercussions then?
Will it be disabled automagically for installs using the current iso? Is it safe to disable?
Apr 12 2017
Because it's blocking a major piece of software. VLC should be offered statically linked to ffmpeg.
Why is vlc even the default player instead of mpv?
Apr 10 2017
@ikey I've got my ssd. Any chance you could post the link to the ISO?
Definitely. What differences would there be?
Likely to do with my dying HDD. Will edit this once I get a new storage device.

Nevermind, it only went way for 3 boots. It's back.
@DataDrake Magically went away with last night's batch of updates.
Mar 30 2017
@DataDrake Ironically, when I bought my 280x I thought to myself 'surely this 7970ghz rebrand will have great stability under linux due its somewhat old age'.

How about removing initrd and using kernel device names instead of UUIDs? Would shave off a few seconds (2-3).
Feb 17 2017
Thanks ikey, useful as always.
Feb 5 2017
@DataDrake How about a flatpak version of mpv statically linked to the latest ffmpeg?
Jan 28 2017
@ikey Even the official binary crashed the exact same way as when a tab crashes.
Oh yeah, apparently this wasn't always an issue for me. You need to find out what version of Firefox Solus was using on the 23rd of December because the previous build was working flawlessly for me.
Jan 27 2017
@ikey Yes, it crashes in its vanilla state on media rich websites and those are the errors I get.
Oh and I mentioned that as a justification as to why I'm posting it here as opposed to mozilla's own bug tracker.
It's been like this since day 1. It crashes, especially whilst watching videos or when I'm on whatsapp with multiple tabs open. I don't understand why it only happens to me, but I figured reinstalling and not touching xorg.conf would maybe fix it, but no, the liveCD version crashed just the same, which is odd considering it works just fine on gentoo.
@DataDrake You're kidding me, right? It's literally explicitly stated in the OP that I used the default settings for testing purposes. In fact, I have recently reinstalled Solus AND the unmodified liveCD version of Firefox kept crashing just the same.
Dec 24 2016
I would like to add that when firefox's tabs crash (obviously using chromium's ipc channel implementation), so do chrome's. It just happened.
I use it in conjunction with webcamstudio when skyping to avoid overexposure issues (webcamstudio allows me to lower the gamma curve for example).
Dec 23 2016
You can edit a stream and output it to a virtual webcam. TrucklistStudio/WebcamStudio both use it, for instance, to create the virtual devices.
To quote the programmer who made it:
Dec 21 2016
Installing xhost is not enough. You still get xhost: unable to open display "", unless you also add export DISPLAY=:0.0 to your .bashrc.

Ffmpeg can be statically linked with mpv. That's what mpv's helper scripts do, actually. https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv-build

I built it 2 days ago from git and it's all over the issues. Odd! It should work if pulseaudio's using shm files. Why is mine using them and yours (and ikey's) isn't?
It's not working on poppler-0.44 and newer, but zhou is investigating.
@JoshStrobl it's not a matter of trust, it helps mitigating 0days.
