Perhaps I worded it incorrectly. Sway is configurable with config file, however, any configuration file present in ~/.config/sway results in crashed desktop.

Fair enough, we'll wait for kyrios to comment. In the meanwhile, what can I do to change brightness on wayland? echo number >> /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness isn't working, so I'm having to switch to plasma every time I want to change brightness.
Huh. You're right. It does NOT work in X either. So, what can I try next?
Except Light isn't an X application. It communicates directly with the kernel to modify values in /sys/class/backlight/ to change brightness. I believe other utilities such as acpilight and brightnessctl do the same. Also, light is one of the recommended applications for brightness control as a replacement for xbacklight on sway wiki, which is why I installed it at all.

Hol' up. If acpilight is going to remove xbacklight, I believe it does ask for confirmation from user for so. And since user shall be installing this package manually in 100% of cases, we can say with sufficient confidence that they know what they're doing. Even then, if acpilight is enough to do xbacklight's work, there shouldn't be any problem just going forward and removing xbacklight.
@kyrios123 I've been trying out swaywm, which is wayland only, and brightness control is one of the last pet-peeves. Can we simply show a warning before installing acpilight that it would replace xbacklight?

That's kinda what I was talking about (it seems little to do with vlc, qbittorrent)...On a clean boot, you can see the entries and VLC will show up, then it enters this broken state where it won't show new systray icons till you remove/readd the widget. The blank entries seems the easiest way to tell that it's in that broken state. I need a comparison of apples with apples. If you compare to another distro that wasn't running 5.12, then that's not telling much (it certainly didn't used to do this).
@sunnyflunk windows uses
@JoshStrobl , vscode icon is present now, but doesn't show up on titlebar, there it still has generic X11 icon.
12 (the keyboard shortcuts):
I like the ALT Key as my window-management-key, here some examples:
alt + b = hide window borders
alt + numpad 4 = pin window to left side
alt + numpad 1 = pin window to lower left side
alt + numpad 5 = maximize window
and so on..
i don't know if other people do that or like that.

@folcred va-api isn't listed in Video > Output. I also set Hardware-accelerated decoding to va-api and tried matching with every option under Video > Output, no dice. I have HD3000 integrated graphics, which should be fine, because it has been so far. This is with latest update with rebuilt VLC this morning. Anything else I can try?

5.12 is out now. All reports indicate at solid release, dunno if we want to wait for point release, considering current ISO is already beta. Might as well get more eyeballs on future issues early on.
I am pretty busy atm, I'll see if I can find time to test these out.

10s is fine.
- Dolphin still has artifacts for me

I have HD3000. Driver trouble is unheard of for me. But anyhow, where can I look for help about it?
Feb 1 2018
Maybe I need more coffee before I setup a new install. Alright, edited description to mirror this info.
Okay, I went digging, and splash screen is ON. I am positive I did not do that manually. Can we confirm that? Also font issue in dolphin is upstream issue then?
Timer for (2) can be reduced to 5 seconds and be good enough. If that feels too fast, maybe 10. Need more votes.

Should be ready. I've been testing plasma ISO, and other than couple of issues, it has been excellent. Lacks an installer tough.

Holy crap that list is huge. Take your time. OTOH, if I try to package this for Solus, does its chances get any faster?

Any particular reason this is not in the repos yet?

I'd like to see tomcat get included as well. My class requires tomcat.

All the subtasks seem to be completed and resolved. What's the holdup if I may ask?
Apr 23 2017
Another confirmation. Never stopped happening. Confirmed while updating to 4.9.20, 4.9.21, 4.9.22. I don't really mind running 'update-grub' once in a while, but this is clearly a bug that needs resolving.

My bad, apologies. I must have fudged up eopkg sr. Won't happen again.

One advantage of xbacklight is extremely fine tuning. My laptop display supports over 700 steps, and even with percentage shortcuts, I could go as low as 1%, perfect for late night streams...
Somehow, this fixed itself on me. Happened sometime before clr-boot-manager, so can't pin on that. I'm sorry I cannot say when, exactly, because I set new keyboard shortcuts for xbacklight and used them. Tried default brightness keys by accident couple of weeks ago and they worked. This happened to anyone?

With budgie 11 and eventual shift to wayland, xbacklight won't work anymore. I found acpilight for drop-in replacement for xbacklight. I have yet to test it, but if there is no permanent fix until budgie 11 is released, this might provide a temp fix then.
