Thanks for the quick resolution! Not urgent enough for me to cherry pick from unstable, I just wanted to raise and document the issue. Cheers!

Seems like this just requires updating gdk-pixbuf, though I’d imagine that’s easier said than done.

Thanks for digging into this Staudey. I can see they committed the PR you linked 2 days ago, so I’m guessing it will land in a release sometime soon. I can wait for that.

Just did a software update and was surprised to find that I needed to install postgresql. I looked up the reverse dependencies and was again, surprised to find qt6-base. Looks like obs-studio is what added the dependency to qt6-base.

Reinstalling it (today) seemed to fix the problem. I swear I tried that before and it didn't work. :)

@joebonrichie that fixed the problem for me! Thanks!
I just hit this as well. Definitely seems like a memory issue. I ran it through Valgrind and I'm seeing invalid writes before the crash.

Seems like this is an AMD thing.

I still hit the issue with the current kernel, but the journal logs do seem to give more promising information.
Thanks, Harvey. I am indeed using nvidia-glx-driver with lts and will install nvidia-glx-driver-current. I also checked all the ones listed here: https://getsol.us/articles/troubleshooting/boot-management/en/#installing-an-alternative-kernel
Let me give it a try. This says current is the default. Was that the case in 2017 time frame? I vaguely remember being guided towards picking lts by the installer. But that was a long time ago.
I picked that when I first set up my system 2 years ago... I think I was assuming it was more stable? Are you suggesting to use the current instead?

I (think) this happens to me too. I check journalctl after power cycling and never see anything that looks interesting to me.

When making the revision, I accidentally did git commit without the --amend, which created a new differential. (I abandoned those.) I later did git commit --amend in the same repository, and then arc diff. I read the instructions here, but git rebase -i HEAD~2 doesn't work.

Forgot the --amend on my git commit and created this new diff by mistake while modifying an existing one. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Perhaps we could just replace all ' (U+0027) characters with ’ (U+201B) in realname since that is the typographically correct symbol to use in names anyway. Then we don't have to worry about it colliding with a Python quote character.
Here is the current list of illegal characters for realname: https://github.com/solus-project/os-installer/blob/eb78acc5bff66d4c9007247f6660f395e6461ca7/os_installer2/pages/users.py#L70
