There might be a issue with the graphics driver for NVIDIA is not compatible with the X server. This also happens on other distributions. But I´m not sure

Updated instructions at https://solus-project.com/articles/troubleshooting/boot-management/en/ might be confusing as there is no /etc/kernel/cmdline file yet one may stumble upon a /etc/kernel/cmdline.d/10_resume.conf (depends whether one's rebooted etc.)

There was one a 2nd one on 12th Feb which should have improved locale issues.
Is the 2 ISO already out?
@Girtablulu are you able to test this again off the 2nd ISO?
Mar 21 2018
You can try to get more insights into what's going on by removing these boot options from the boot loader: quiet loglevel=3 splash systemd.show_status=false. You can do it from the boot manager selection screen by selection a version of Solus and pressing e.

@DataDrake Awesome, thanks for adding the tag!

Very much so. Only affects latest current kernel.
Is this still an issue?
Is this still an issue?
It's not a perfect workaround, but now you can at least create a user and then are able to go back to the hostname selection page
sgdisk is no longer missing.
No longer an issue with the new installer
This mount option is no longer used.

Yeah its an ugly situation we're in and we've had to repeatedly tell people do NOT use doflicky before a full update as you know yourself with the kernel thing. Killing DoFlicky will help there. Cheers for bring it up though lad you're bang on.
Okay, @ikey. It’s primarily the fact that people updating their drivers before running sudo eopkg up can boot into a TTY since X fails to start and people tend to panic when “things have broken”.

Figured I'd add onto this ticket as I have a bootable system now with some minor maintenance for kernel package updates. I set this up with edk2/ovmf-x64 in libvirt using two ide drives. Boot from raid works when one drive removed as well.

Hello.
Any update regarding this issue ?
After setting up volumes this is what i get by launching the installer from command line :

Just to confirm that on the bottom of the "Choose keyboard layout" page in the Solus installer it says "type here to test your keyboard layout" and it does not use the selected keyboard layout for testing.
The step in the Solus installer where the keyboard layout is switched from English US to English UK is when you arrive at "Choose keyboard layout" after finishing "Find location".

I was testing yesterday on Hardware and can confirm that I was able to reproduce this bug consistently. I'm running on a Dell XPS 15 (9560). Opening apps then connecting the Wifi doesn't seem to have any adverse affect on the already running applications.

xdg-user-dirs will now run on Plasma login to create these dirs (if they don't exist).

@JoshStrobl and @ikey how can I generate a test install image? I'm currently upgrading a bunch of packages in the livedvd environment in VirtualBox to get my git fork of the installer to test. There must be a better way.

Mainly because I have to learn python to do this. I'm not sure what will be easier to do, but I'm going to study the source and see about integrating it for /home as a start.
Why limit it to just /home rather than the entire filesystem?

So this will need some validation (via a new ISO) after fixing the language stuff elsewhere to see if that resolves it.

@folcred , as soon as i get home from work i'll try it again. Thanks for the idea, i see if i can get some verbose feedback in order to help find a solution, or maybe get to the conclusion that's a problem on my end.
I'll replicate the Konsole feedback here.
I can't reproduce as I don't have wifi. @jppmarujo, can you try running something from the terminal? Disconnect the wifi, open konsole, then connect the wifi. See if you can type into konsole, and if so, try to start dolphin or some other app. Do you get any error messages?

The way folder creation is done is going to be changed so it resolves this and any future related issue that may arise to how it is done now. @ikey will do this as part of this weeks startup improvements and optimizations.
Yeah we need to sort out xdg-user-dirs crap. I'm happy to help on this one
can confirm this issue
Just did again, and can confirm that if i disconnect, applications open again.
I've also experienced this bug
Can people try to reproduce this? Just seems extremely odd

Also, just to clarify, the /boot partition is not in the md mirror, just root and swap. The ESP seems to be working fine since I'm able to get into initramfs.

@JoshStrobl Sorry about that. "Triage" sounds urgent and this definitely isn't.
@dotdigital-digital Do not triage issues, leave that to the Triage Team, thank you.
Adding to Software project since it is probably a CBM issue.

Closing as I got LMDE installed and will reopen if it doesn't work with Solus 4.
I just tried with other operating systems. The Linux Mint 18.3 MATE 64-bit doesn't work either but the LMDE 2 installer loads, so there must be something that can be enabled in the kernel? The LMDE installer works via the compatibility mode and loads completely so that I could install the system.
Note for myself: nomodeset vga=792

@ikey Do you have any ideas if there is anything that can be done to install Solus on this machine?

Nov 17 2017
Agreed that could be an alternative, @Splizard please report over at https://github.com/solus-project/os-installer/issues as a feature request.
Nov 16 2017
compromise suggestion: there could be a warning or a user-friendlier error message saying the target cannot be mounted.
And if the installer unmounts it people would complain about data loss as there was writes happening.

I also had problems with this computer but I was lazier than you : I did stay on the lts kernel which works just fine with this machine.

Yeah, secure boot is off and I've tried different USB ports and drives.

I had the same problem when trying to install Solus yesterday, I tried to set my keyboard layout to the french variant "bépo". I managed to type my password using the virtual keyboard at the login screen.
But then I didn't found the "Login Screen" button mentioned by franklinovitch.
Other than that everything is set correctly once logged in.
