I'm new to linux but any GUI firewall which shows incoming and outgoing connections and can block them by a simple click will be awesome.
I used Glasswire firewall on Windows for that. But now I'm full-time linux because Microsoft sucks and Linux is great
How about Gufw?
Homepage: http://gufw.org/
Open Source: yes
Source: https://launchpad.net/gui-ufw/16.10/16.10/+download/gui-ufw-16.10.0.tar.gz
Yes please. gufw looks simple enough. I hope it allows me to block programs from connecting to the internet.
I found a new firewall and it looks almost perfect!
https://github.com/Douane/Douane
http://douaneapp.com/
If it is possible to include this in Solus software center I will not even look for another distro as Solus has almost everything else that I need.
no luck yet with Douane firewall http://douaneapp.com/
We need a nice Gui firewall to use for Solus
Sounds that Douane looks great but not maintained anymore.
Does it fit Solus packaging standards then ?
"gufw is awful tbh"
Can you please explain why ? I don't have enough technical expertise or experience to defend 'gufw'. It's only out of interest, I am asking. But since 'ufw' is already included in Solus repos, right now 'gufw' seems to be the logical answer for the GUI need, right ? But 'gufw' in my experience has worked well and it is very easy and straight forward to configure gufw for basic to moderate needs.
yeah I agree with you @parijathakumar
gufw is the logical choice here since ufw is already in the repo
good luck
gufw now in @ https://git.solus-project.com/packages/gufw/commit/?h=gufw-17.04.1-2
Need some testers on it, thanks. Also needs to be made stateless if anyone is volunteering
If it go to stable, does it mean that it will be included ootb in the next snapshots? I remember that a gui firewall was one of the requirements to have a firewall preinstalled on Solus.
ok so it landed into stable atm and I installed it but it doesn't open at all
I enter my password but no result
even tried with terminal by typing "gufw" same result
I would like to ask if there is already a how-to guide on installing PeerGuardian Linux. Based on my research it is still the only blocklist tool available, although it hasn't been updated in awhile should still work. I am stuck on the Installation process. Is there a simple way to manage blocklists, and temporarily and permanently allow/block IPs with a mouse-click (similar to PeerBlock for Windows)? If you know how to install pgl on solus, please point me in the right direction and let me know here (or PM me on https://solus-project.com/forums/)
@lethed Unfortunatly, I am not sure about it either. I hope that at some point a firewall will be installed by default but I think the consensus of the Solus team was at that time to vote against it but to leave it up to the user to install and configure it. Of course, there is also the question to what extent a firewall is helpful when there are probably better solutions to install firewalls at the router level. If anyone of the Solus team reads this, I'd be happy to have further discussions about this. I good step would also be to include different firewall configuration options in the help center.
