Following description is directly from the the developer's site:

Ren'Py is a visual novel engine – used by thousands of creators from around the world – that helps you use words, images, and sounds to tell interactive stories that run on computers and mobile devices. These can be both visual novels and life simulation games. The easy to learn script language allows anyone to efficiently write large visual novels, while its Python scripting is enough for complex simulation games.

Ren'Py is open source and free for commercial use.

Why this package should be included in repository: Ren'Py is free, widely used and powerful tool for creating visual novels. While there are few alternatives for creating visual novels, some of them commercial, Ren'Py is generally highly regarded and has been around for a long time and remains in active development. For more information, see Why Ren'Py? Also, Solus doesn't have this kind of software in its repository.

Event Timeline

I know of a few games that use Ren'Py, namely DDLC (though that's more of a horror facsimile of a visual novel). It's legit. Whether it gets included depends on the value add, I suppose, but I can vouch for it.

Only problem though it's that this depends on Python 2, but a bit of patching may solve the issue. As for python-pygame the newer release already uses SDL 2.

This is not eligible for inclusion until after it is ported to Python 3, as we are not accepting new Python 2 packages. Upstream progress: https://github.com/renpy/renpy/issues/2003

We can revisit it and its dependencies at that time.

serebit, I've heard about DDLC, but I'm not familiar it with myself. But Ren'Py is indeed the most common choice for the creation of visual novels, and the most versatile program for it. In terms of adding value, Ren'Py certainly does that not only by being a great tool for creative work, but it can also introduce people to programming with Python. Many portions of Ren'Py take Python expressions.

DataDrake, it's understandable about waiting for Python 3, as Python 2 is at the end of its development. Hopefully Ren'Py gets that required update in the near future as planned, and will then be included in the repo.
