*There is other software on GiHub by OpenBazaar, including the program to run a server for OpenBazaar if you're a vendor*

OpenBazaar is a new way to buy and sell goods and services online. By running a program on your computer, you can connect directly to other users in the OpenBazaar network and trade with them. The network isn't controlled by a company or organisation. OpenBazaar is a decentralised peer-to-peer network, which means there are no listing fees and the marketplace is censorship-resistant.
Goods and services are bought and sold on OpenBazaar using Bitcoin, a digital cryptocurrency that is decentralised and censorship-resistant. Transaction fees on the Bitcoin network are very cheap.

This looks like it's just a desktop wrapper for the website. What does this provide that using the website doesn't?

Everything. There is no website to access OpenBazaar. There are a few indexing sites out there but they are separate from OpenBazaar and direct you to the page WITHIN the OpenBazaar software (opens up the page in OpenBazaar software).

You can not sell or buy anything without the software; it is completely software based. The website only provides links to documentation and the software itself.

This has two components:

I've packaged the client but the server is written python and a little annoying to package. Maybe we should wait to for the openbazaar server in go to get out of beta

@theSoenke Wow, that's great! I suspect the client is more important for the majority of people, so that's amazing that you packaged it. Of course, it requires the server though! I think waiting for the go version of the server to be finalized is fine. I'm not familiar with packaging software... Why is Python more difficult, just out of curiosity? Thanks for working on this!

@TheMarketAnarchist The python server was crashing when starting it. Turned out the reason was that it requires a newer python-protobuf library. So it could be packaged but it also would require quite a few additional python libraries to be packaged.

@theSoenke Well, the GO version will be ready fairly soon, I imagine. If you want to wait, that is fine, or if the extra python libraries are small and easy enough to package, then the current python version would be fine as well. Either way, I'm glad OpenBazaar will eventually be on Solus!
