Acer Chromebook CB3-431 No Audio
Closed, ResolvedPublic

The Acer Chromebook CB3-431 works perfectly on Solus apart from being unable to find audio devices.

It is possible to fix by adding/swapping the necessary files from the GalliumOS braswell repository, namely:

  • /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5650/HiFi.conf
  • /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtrt5650/chtrt5650.conf
  • /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtmax98090/HiFi.conf
  • /usr/share/alsa/ucm/chtmax98090/chtmax98090.conf
  • /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-chtrt5650.conf
  • /etc/pulse/
  • /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-headphones.conf
  • /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/paths/analog-output-speaker.conf

Is it possible to incorporate these changes into Solus somehow? Or is this something outside of distributions to handle?

The ICM files you're referring to should be shipped in ALSA's ucm conf project. This is in fact the case, they're in ucm-conf 1.2.3 so it should just be a matter of us updating to the latest releases of that, topology conf, and alsa itself. We can see about getting that sorted this week.

Regarding pulseaudio, we reverted from pulseaudio 13.x to 12.x due to persistent HDMI default device issues (see R2493:73148b1f32ddc91bb0061269c7ff6ee8b3e9d0fd), so if there are any changes to those confs from 13.x you'll need to apply them yourself.
