Problem with Intel video driver Celeron N3050 GPU HD 400 Braswell
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

After upgrading to kernel 4.4 and even now after 4.6 I have lot of issues related to the video driver and even freezes in my netbook, I managed to solved it by uninstalling xorg-video-driver-intel and everything works fine now but my netbook was unusable.

Why are you keeping this package installed by default if with the kernel driver everything works even better? (I also tested some games and work better)

Could this also apply to the other xorg-video-* packages?

So let's get a couple of things straight. You mean kernel 5.4 and 5.6, not 4.4 and 4.6. We haven't had those kernels in a very long time. The maintenance of the Intel DDX driver is up to them and if things are broken, I'm open to patches, but it's not our fault they are happening. We include the Intel DDX driver because it works for nearly all Intel chipsets. You have had the misfortune of running into a situation where your GPU is one of a very few models impacted by these issues. And in most cases, this presents itself as screen tearing or small artifacts, not full breakage.

Sorry I meant kernel 5.4 and 5.6, in my case I have freezes (I am forced to press the power button), black screen and glitches, after removing the xorg-driver-video-intel package everything works fine.

I understand the situation but believe me the computer is unusable is not just tearing or small errors.

I hope you will be able to apply the patch before releasing 4.2 because you will lose lot of users and also you must know that this GPU is very common for example I convinced my friend to use Solus and he has the same GPU, almost all the Intel Celeron comes with it.

Also an open bug of a guy with the Intel UHD 620 (and this is a really common GPU) has the same problem so is not an isolated case that only affect Braswell GPU.

Thank you for creating the best OS in the world :0)

I never said that wasn't the case, just that your particular case of an unusable system is rare.

Again, no, this is not a very common problem or a very common hardware configuration for Solus users. In the over 3 years I have worked on Solus, fewer than 50 people have ever reported problems with Intel graphics that were solved by removing the Intel DDX driver. I'm going to apply the patch because I'm a nice guy, but I'd ask that you please stop blowing this out of proportion.
