vs code - remote ssh not working
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

I am using the vscode from the solus package repository.

I installed the remote ssh extension, but when I try to run the command "Connect to Host", I get the error message :

command 'opensshremotes.openEmptyWindow' not found

I tried with the vscode binaries from microsoft, and I don't get the same error.

Our version of Visual Studio Code is built from source, specifically, it is built using this respository: https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/

Building from source, our version is lacking some Microsoft specific stuff which you can read more about here:
https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/wiki/Differences-between-the-repository-and-Visual-Studio-Code

Additionally, Remote Development Extension is closed source, and as such, works only with official binaries distributed by Microsoft.

You can also see here that VSCodium is suffering from the same problem for the same reason:
https://github.com/VSCodium/vscodium/issues/240

Closing this since there isn't anything I can do about it, unlike the changes I made to the default product.json to ensure the likes of marketplace integration work.

I ran into the same issue and tried the snap install which fixed this issue, but the snap version had other issue with opening web links in Firefox. So finally I decided to install the tar.gz package from the Microsoft VS Code download page.
