ISSUE: After installing Tor Browser Bundle 0.3.2-2, I attempted to open Tor Browser. Launching Tor starts to open Tor Browser; however, I am left with a blank window "Connected to Tor". I used the Tor Browser Launcher Settings to select various servers and reinstalled without successes.
I recently reinstalled Solus after purchasing a new SSD. Tor worked previously before this fresh installation and before the recent GNOME stack update. I am not aware of any router configuration settings that could affect connection. Regardless, my settings should be consistent with the time when Tor worked previously. No VPN. Attempted with firewall disabled and enabled.
Please tell me it's a PEBCAK error.
ATTEMPTED STEPS TO RESOLVE:
- Selection of alternate mirrors using Tor Browser Launcher Settings
- Removal and re-installation of Tor Browser Launcher and Tor through Software Center
- Ran, sudo eopkg check | grep Broken | awk '{print $4}' | xargs sudo eopkg it --reinstall
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
- Open Software Center and navigate to Internet Software > Web browsers > Tor Browser Launcher
- Proceed with installation and accept Tor 0.4.1.6-20 as a dependency
- Observe no installation errors
- Navigate to Tor Browser under the Application Menu and open Tor Browser
- Observe blank window, "Connected to Tor", after Launcher runs
- Close window
- Navigate to Tor Browser Launcher Settings under the Applications Menu and open
- Select mirror other than "https://dist.torproject.org/" and click "Reinstall Tor Browser".
- Observe re-installation and resulting same blank window
- Close window
- Open Terminal and enter torbrowser-launcher
- Observe output with "dbind-WARNING"
EXPECTED RESULTS: The Tor Browser should open and render once launched or reinstalled with the Tor Browser Launcher Settings with no special configuration.
