Seems rather it's more than just acknowledging spaces, it's fixated on them and doesn't show entries that don't have spaces in the proper places. (seeing as SimpleScreenRecorder is really written like that)

The software center search on the package name and summary.
So according to the package definition, simplescr (part of the name) or screen recorder (part of the subject) would work.
It's not a problem with spaces or a bug, just something that could be enhanced in the new software center.

This was already something that the previous rewrite of the Software Center was going to accomplish:

We were aware back then of ways to improve search and this is something that realistically should be done with sol / sol daemon's package searching functionality rather than in the Software Center, when we get to doing the C rewrite. That would ensure consistent search results regardless of if you use the CLI or the GUI.

Closing as invalid since:

  1. I wouldn't really want to track SC issues here.
  2. This is something that should be implemented in our next generation package manager and its daemon instead.
