no spellcheck in Gedit
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

I've sat on this 2 weeks thinking it would go away.
It was referenced at dev pages in 2017 and marked solved T5293 (https://dev.getsol.us/T5293) because the Hunspells were supposed to be the remedy.
I've had the Hunspells installed a long time. The spellcheck disappeared recently.
Yes the plugin is enabled in preferences.
It's not a broken package in eopkg. And according to T5293, it's not a rundep thing.
I keep thinking the installation of another dictionary might solve this but rather ask you all first, then go head first into trial and error.
P.S.--opening Gedit in terminal works perfectly, no messages

P.S.S.--I'm unsure if I should start on the forum and migrate here? Or just come here? In this case I skipped the forum. If this belongs on forum, please advise.

The spell checking has not disappeared at all. It's accessible via Tools -> Checking Spelling, and Tools -> Highlight Misspelled Words (I have it disabled on mine, but I have validated that it works). If it is not showing for you, I suggest making you sure you actually do have the correct hunspell package installed. This has been the case for years.

I can see where this earns the invalid tag because I alluded to the problem but never described it.
This failure is all on me.
I used to get squiggly lines under typos so I could right-click and fix.
This does not happen anymore.

This is the real problem.
Squiggly lines then 4-5 weeks ago (?) no squiggly lines.

Hunspell installations are correct and yes, the method you showed me also works.
I should of titled and phrased this post different. Apologies.
