This software allows running Windows VST plugins on Linux (the only one wrapper that worked well for me on Linux Mint before). It does so using Wine, it creates a SO wrapper over the actual DLL files, the SO wrappers can then be loaded into any Linux DAW (like Cocos Reaper in my case). I don't really know how much users will benefit from this package, but I (as a Linux based musician) can't really live without it. What do you think?

Event Timeline

I would say that this is a great software to add to the Solus repository. The new update to LMMS 1.2.0 that I did doesn’t really handle windows VSTs with wine very good so a wrapper like this would be useful. The VST implementation isn’t that good in LMMS and that was partly why I packaged Carla for loading LV2 and VST plug-ins in to LMMS.

This would allow users to use the windows VSTs inside Carla for LMMS and for use in Ardour and similar apps ?

I'm accepting this with the understanding that it looks like the devs delete releases and tags. If this becomes a problem for rebuilds, I will not hesitate to nuke it from orbit.

I have contacted the developer and he was kind enough to stop deleting tags. There’s currently two releases in the releases page and I will make sure to package this when I get back to my packaging computer :)

Yes, I have started looking in to packaging this recently. It took some time because I was investigating the possibility of building wine support in Carla, but that turned out to be more way more complicated than this. This will need more testing and it's not really ready yet...

This has moved down in my priority list because I had a deeper dive in to this and had a little conversation with the Carla developer (also main maintainer for jack1 and jack2). It turns out that Carla features a windows bridge that needs MinGW64 to build but he said that it is much better than fully relying on wine like this software. The whole way this software works also seems to be a bit annoying, but I haven’t tested using it apart from looking at the manual.

I am waiting to get the MinGW patches landed that are circulating here in phabicator. If I can get the windows bridges to build, I think I will use that instead since it apparently is a much better solution. If it doesn’t work I fill probably include this instead.

Oh right, we have the Mingw64 stuff in the repository now. Will give a shot at getting it wired into Carla before looking into this more.

Sorry. Haven't had any time at all to look at this.

It's been over 30 days since this has been accepted and marked for needs maintainer. Given nobody has stepped up to provide an accepted patch, marking as wontfix. Feel free to re-open when a patch has been submitted via the appropriate process.
