Remove dmenu as a dependency for i3
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

Not sure if this is the right way to suggest this, but here goes: (Rationale below)

dmenu is not needed to run i3, therefore i should be able to remove it from my system without removing i3.

If you want to package a complete i3 environment, maybe consider adding a new package (i3-desktop?) or including rofi.

If you don't want to do this that's fine, this may be more of a question about policy

Thanks :)

Rationale: Recently there have been multiple indicators that suckless.org, the group behind projects like dmenu, dwm and st support, to put it lightly, controversial ideologies. I'd like to have the choice about whether i want software by people like that on my system.

It's set up this way so that you have a default menu in i3. You should be able to remove just dmenu with a simple:

sudo eopkg rm --ignore-dependency dmenu

Oh I had no idea that was possible. Thanks!
