Name of Software: AMD Open Source Driver for Vulkan (AMDVLK)

Product Homepage: https://github.com/GPUOpen-Drivers/AMDVLK

Reasoning: AMDVLK performs better in certain areas where the current driver RADV does not. AMD Lists the following features.

Vulkan 1.1
More than 30 extensions
Radeon™ GPUProfiler tracing
Built-in debug and profiling tools
Mid-command buffer preemption and SR-IOV virtualization

This will add value to the Solus gaming experience as we would not be tied down to just RADV and have another option at our disposal that can be more performant on newer hardware. Also certain steam games via Steam Play such as Deep Rock Galactic have GPU Hangs with RADV over AMDVLK.

Is it open source: It is under the MIT license and available for building on github.

Hi @Astilex i still try to report this bug with deep rock galactic maybe you can write something to do this too to push it a bit :) https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109201

and i also only recommand this driver for walkarounds for games who have gpu hangs or other gaming breaking bugs.

Yeah I had some issues with lutris when goofing around with it on Ubuntu. It seems AMDVLK still needs refining. It works great with Native Linux apps not so much with WINE. I plan on installing Solus again this weekend now that I am done playing around with AMDVLK.

I also will file a bug report with the DRG devs. I'm not sure if they will support it as we are using Steam Play but its worth a shot.

I'd like to see this get more stable first.

i just want to say that the bug with with deep rock galactic got fixed in mesa 18.3.3 and have a nice weekend :)

As of May, at least, it's kind of a wash between RADV and AMDVLK. Win-some, lose-some. So for now I think we'll stick to what we currently support and trust the Mesa folks to keep improving.
