Adapta has been updating the design with a new 2.0 material design that a lot of the community seems to dislike. I personally don't like the new design and see the old one as perfect in every way. I forked the old code to keep it but tista has been getting a lot of negative feedback on the new design too. While I understand a lot of user's hesitation to adopt the new Adapta theming, it should be noted that we have already updated our colors to Solus blues as of R338:3023926849958b9f42b941c0591f3a9d74b61a3f and therefore makes that argument moot.
Regardless, I'll be holding back the upgrade to 3.95.x just to ensure an adequate amount of time for upstream to validate their changes / new release, as well as fix any unexpected issues the community may surface from the more extensive testing.
That being said, I am not entertaining the idea of a fork of Adapta.
Yeah, the fork is primaily just to keep the old code easy to find and downloadable, I do see tajt a fullt maintained fork isn’t the way to go. Users seem to be complaining about more than just the color scheme at the time but it will be interesting to see what happens next..
@Jacalz Yea if there are issues beyond the color scheme (which doesn't exactly apply to us) then I'd focus more on getting those issues addressed rather than using a fork. Tista has always been responsive to critique and generally speaking quite easy to work with, so I'm not concerned about Adapta heading in a direction that'd conflict with us and/or our pseudo-HIG.
Interesting development on this front. Tista has reverted to 3.94 source, and is likely going to move his redesign to a new project.
With that in mind, I suppose the question is whether or not Solus will move to Tista's separate Adapta redesign project, or continue to use the 3.94 design.
Tista sent the following via their Patreon:
I've decided to move to somewhere else from Adapta-project. Mainly I want to make MY OWN themes for myself. So please stop donating me for Adapta developments. Maybe someone else will hand over that project in future (I hope so)... :) Finally thank you all patrons again!! You helped me. Best Regards. Tista500
At this moment in time I'm freezing Adapta on the 3.94 source and I'm not in a rush to move to any new GTK theming, as the 3.94 series supports the upcoming Budgie 10.5 as well as latest GNOME (3.30) and MATE. It's really too early to tell what tista will do, whether or not they'll start making themes for themselves (i.e. not public), etc. and I don't really have any desire to speculate. For now, the 3.94 series works just fine, I see no immediate reason to abandon ship.
