wifi connection delay on login (with VPN)

Description

On logging in (not unlocking), the wifi takes ~5 minutes to automatically connect when also set to connect to a VPN.

  1. What VPN are you using?
  2. Is this via your Network settings, third-party application, software in the repo?

Possibility that this can be resolved with NetworkManager 1.12 however upgrades tend to be pretty problematic so I'd rather we be conservative and wait until the GNOME 3.30 stack to upgrade NetworkManager.
