Wifi connection takes a long time to establish at startup
Open, NormalPublic

Description

When I start my laptop, after I login to the Plasma session, wifi takes a long time to connect to the saved network. I didn't measure exactly, but it seems to be around 15 seconds. Once it is connected, if I disconnect, and manually reconnect, it is almost instantaneous.

Before I moved to Plasma I had Budgie, and it did not have this issue, wifi was connecting fast at startup. I have another laptop with Budgie currently, configured with the same saved wifi network, and it connects almost instantly at login.

The only reason this is bothering is because I have to wait these 15 seconds before launching Firefox. If I launch it before wifi is connected, it will not find any webpage even once the connection is established.

I installed Solus using the Plasma iso. My wireless card is the Intel 7265. Let me know if I can do anything specific to provide debug information.

Event Timeline

Currently I have Budgie and have the same issue... Is a way identified for debugging?

What's the output of:

dmesg | grep NETDEV

Unfortunately for debugging, I don't experience this issue anymore. I recently moved to another place where I connect to a new network, and it is pretty much instant at boot. Could be a mere correlation, but we can also make the hypothesis that the issue happens on some networks and not others (while it didn't happen at all with Budgie on any networks).

Here is my output, as of now:

[ 4.014237] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 4.118464] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 4.168287] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 10.665308] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 16.316043] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlp2s0: link becomes ready

I moved to a new place again. And on this wifi, the issue is back!

Here is the dmesg | grep NETDEV:

[ 2.869540] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 2.967614] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 3.895937] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 57.005322] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlp2s0: link is not ready
[ 57.952701] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlp2s0: link becomes ready

As you can see, it takes a minute, vs 15s previously.

I had the same issue with Plasma because I had my wifi security set to "store password for the user only (encrypted)". Once I changed it (system settings > network > connections > wi-fi security) to "store password for all users (not encrypted)" my wifi is connected as soon as my desktop appears. I found out about this from the following link:
