Plasma - "log in automatically" don't have any effect
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

The option "log in automatically" from the System Settings - Account Details menu don't have any effect on log in behavior.

I have the 5.13.1.1 plasma desktop (framework 5.47).

This option worked in the past but I am unable to pinpoint the upgrade that broke it.

Thank you for your amazing work!

@Brandywine I have looked at the code. For this to work it requires 2 things:

  1. sddm-kcm package installed
  2. Using SDDM as your DM

Thank you @sunnyflunk, I followed your advice and I was able to auto-login... but in budgie!
To make a persistent plasma auto-login you have also to go into system settings, login screen , advanced, and here configuring the default session.

I was thinking that it should be possible to configure lightdm to auto-login in plasma, just not from plasma system settings menu. Am I right?

Now it's working, thank you!

It will only specify the user to login, not sure how it determines which seesion if it isn't listed (alphabetical etc). The login screen settings are your best choice.

Anything's possible, you'd have to copy /usr/share/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/10_solus_default.conf file to /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d (making the directory first) and then hand edit the right options. Not aware of GUI tools for it as I stick to sddm/plasma. For best integration, ideally I'd enforce SDDM when using plasma, but I don't think people would like that.

I tried to remove the option from the user settings (since they provided no options), but had to remove too much. I suppose it would work fine if you solely installed and used Plasma from the ISO.

However, there's not really anything I'm going to change due to this so I will close it.

Is it already in the Plasma ISO?
So this is a meaningful information in case of issues.
