The problem:

I am unable to access a new hard drive (seagate barracuda 2tb 2.5'') if I connect it with an esata-sata cable. The same setup works with windows 7, and I even used the same cable (but another drive) for backups when I had Ubuntu 16.10 .

When I plug the drive, and it starts spinning, no new lines appears on journalctl.

How to debug this problem?

Thank you!
