Suggestion: Solus 3 snapshot release
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

Solus 3, as a public ISO is pretty old at this point. Last time I installed from scratch, I had to download pretty much the whole iso again in updates.

My suggestion is to release a blessed updated Solus 3 image. Solus 3.1, or Solus 3.2018 for instance, just so new users aren't put off from the large update. I've created installable ISO's testing the XFS changes I made, which means I had 0 updates waiting for on reboot, which is great for an OS that wants the user to just be able to use the system after install.

I'm not suggesting I do this, as I'm not a committer (just a contributor at this point) to the project, but it would be a good interim solution until Solus 4 is released.

Am I way off base for suggesting this? I don't think I am, but it would save some bandwidth and possibly bring in some new users or contributors.

I second this as I recently installed Solus on my brand new Dell XPS 13 9370 and I didn't have wifi at all due to old linux-firmware shipped in the ISO. Upon updating everything my wifi worked correctly but it was a bit of a pain since no tethered connection was possible at the time of the installation

If we're going to be doing a release at this stage, it will be Solus 4. No plans on providing an interim ISO, since all the focus is on the few Solus 4 items left that need to be addressed.

I support @stobbsm because it is sometimes pain in the ass to wait to download the iso and then wait it to be updated again with a slow internet connection like mine. Also I have ran into a blinking cursor 3 times in a row so I am eagerly waiting for the updated iso. It will be way easier for the newcomers if you provide snapshot releases like other distributions do.
Also if you are not doing an interim release then would you mind telling me when Solus 4 iso will be relseased?

We don't do deadlines. Solus 4 will be released in the near future, so there is no point in an intermediate ISO. This has been an unusually long cycle between releases so normally this won't be an issue. There are a lot of moving pieces this time around, so please be patient with us. Thank you.
