Official Minecraft Launcher (New version)

Why should this be included in the repository? If we already offer similar software in our repository or third party, please provide information on what your proposed software does that our existing offerings don’t (differentiators).
The Java version of the Minecraft launcher that instructions are provided here: is actually over a year out-of-date now and on Windows/MacOS, you're given a warning to update to the new launcher. It's possible that Mojang will stop supporting the old launcher with new versions of the game in the future.

The new launcher has a hard dependency on libicu57. An up-to-date Solus install includes libicu59, which is not compatible and will cause the launcher to fail if simply symlinked.

The Mojang team are very happy with this being packaged for other distros. They have self-maintained Debian and Arch packages.

Is it Open Source (yes/no)

How many users do you anticipate will use this software?
A significant proportion of Solus users that actually play games.

Minecraft is the second best-selling game of all time. (

Link to source tarball/zip file files are not permitted. We require versioned tarballs, for example: “1.2.3.tar.gz”.

Anyways, if y'all need a maintainer for this, I would love to help out!

Given we have no plans on flatpaking or snapping this application, closing as wontfix. I'd suggest reaching out to the respective developers about supporting either of those distribution and container models, or taking on the initiative.

That's the old Java launcher, not the new one.

Ah, you're correct. :/

Don't need flatpack or snap package, just use the tar.gz of the new launcher and make it into a package on the repos which I suggested on my post.
