When i choose the German (dead grave acute) keyboard layout, it is still the US keyboard layout.
I tryed changing it while install and changing it in plasma, did not work. The normal German layout is working fine tough. But even when i use the german layout, on TTY 2 for example the layout is still US.
Description
Event Timeline
the gui problem is fixed since the last update, but in tty (strg + shift + f2 for example) the keyboard is still us
en_US.utf8
I like to use my OS in English but since i am German, i like to use the German keyboard.
Maybe that's the problem here? :-/
I'm a bit surprised it wasn't set when you did the install. Did you choose the German keyboard then?
There's a couple of options. If you run localectl list-keymaps | grep de in a terminal, it will give you a list of all the German keymaps the system has installed. Pick the one you want from the list and then:
- To make it temporary while you're in a tty - loadkeys <keymap>
- To make it permanent - sudo localectl set-keymap --no-convert <keymap>. The "--no-convert" bit keeps it from trying to change the X11 keymap too.
You'll have to restart the system for the permanent one to take effect. It creates a file /etc/vconsole.conf that gets read by systemd on boot.
Hi thanks for your help, yes i choose the German keyboard layout while install and changed it to German Dead grave Acute after the last update, because it is working now, but it was not set in the tty, localectl set-keymap --no-convert de-latin1-nodeadkeys worked fine.
i just wanted to point it out, if it is a bug wit the installation, i was not sure, but maybe i am just a little bit special with my English OS and German layout ;-)
I thought you likely would have chosen the keyboard during install, had to ask to be sure.
Looks like we have an installer bug. I'll have to try and get with @ikey and see what he thinks, I believe the installation toolkit is his domain.
Thanks for the information @domacs, it's a big help.
Edit: I should have checked first @domacs, it is a known bug, listed under "Unbreak Now!", so it's a priority one the team is aware of.
