Currently Solus misses extensive support for several prominent items of hardware...
Intel
Notably, Skylake support is in a sorry state in Solus right now. Whilst certain IDs will boot ok, hardware acceleration is busted and GLES is unavailable.
In certain cases, we even lack the SKL IDs added to the kernel
- Missing Color Manager (gamma control, etc) support
- Missing SKL RAPL support - given the introduction of thermald by default this isn't acceptable in Solus.
NVIDIA
- We have incomplete support for Maxwell
- Missing support for GeForce 800M
AMD
- No Power Play support
- Missing full AMDGPU support, enhanced Radeon features, Polaris architecture support,
- Radeon DRM_MODE_PAGE_FLIP_ASYNC support absent
Miscellaneous
Obviously there are many other highly desirable changes between the 4.4 and current mainline 4.7 kernels that Solus requires, to list them all here. Solution appears to be an update to the 4.7 kernel.
- Collate patches for our NVIDIA drivers for 4.7 update
- Push kernel-4.7.0 to unstable
- Quickly put an ISO together to validate booting
- Rebuild all drivers
- Get #Solus-Dev Testers to check every last piece ..
