Description

Name : Da Vinci Resolve (14.11)
Homepage : https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/

Why should this be included in the repository?
Da Vinci Resolve is a professional non-linear editing software. It has a free version (limited features) that would offer a serious and stable alternative to any other editing software currently available on Solus. Offering a porting of Da Vinci Resolve to Solus would allow any user who has to work on video (Youtuber, podcaster, director, editor, editor, holidaymaker...) to do without laborious installation procedures to use Premiere Pro or to quit distribution because of the limitations of currently available open-source software.

What more does it offer?

  • Non-linear editing
  • Advanced color grading & correction
  • Video stabilization
  • Advanced tracking (face, mask)
  • Multicam editing
  • Sound design and edition
  • Mastering
  • Mixing
  • Automated media publishing

Is it Open Source? No.

How many users do you anticipate will use this software? Every video professional,

Link to source tarball/zip file Don't provide any directly downloadable tarball or zip, user must submit a request via a form.

I am aware that it is a tough request, but consider that adding this software truly allows professional video editors and any user who needs to edit video to have a professional solution on a stable and free platform such as Solus.

I would just like to add a screenshot to this post.

This video editor is hands down the best available for Linux at the moment. It rivals even Adobe Premiere Pro with more features, beautiful UI and full cross-platform support.

Davinci Resolve itself is free and gets downloaded in a .zip file which contains an installation .pdf and a 499.1 MB .sh file which contains both the installation script and a bundled binary blob.
Davinci Resolve Studio (Not the free version) has marginally more features, is paid and is designed for studio use.

Now. I know, I know. It's going to be a pain since it's not open-source, but this easily out-classes everything else available by far and I feel like it would be amazing if this could get added to the Third Party Repository.

We are not adding anything new to Third-Party at this time. Please do not bump these tasks.

Given we have no plans on flatpaking or snapping this application, closing as wontfix. I'd suggest reaching out to the respective developers about supporting either of those distribution and container models, or taking on the initiative.
