Update Wire to 2.17.2813
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

https://github.com/wireapp/wire-desktop/archive/release/2.17.2813.tar.gz

Today, I got a popover message via Wire that an update is available and CPU load was up to 98% making further video calls impossible. This is the first time this happened during a video call which was working fine before. Maybe it's related to the popover message and the internal update check. I clicked 'Update now' but the internal updater didn't work. Is this actually something the Solus team would advise to do or should the application rather be updated through the Software Center? In any case, an update would be great as most users will click on Update without it having any effect.

I got ya fam, I'll see if I can disable the internal update mechanism as well.

Thanks a lot for looking into this. I've also just raised an issue upstream here: https://github.com/wireapp/wire-desktop/issues/1015

While you are at it, there is a related issue but it could be due to a missing package in Solus (or the fact that I am using Budgie): https://github.com/wireapp/wire-desktop/issues/942

According to a Wire developer:

Linux does not have an update meachnism, which is why you should update to the latest release 2.17.xxxx. The update banner shown is just a reminder, that a new version of the webapp component being used is available. Nothing is installed in the backend when this banner shows. All a click on this link does is restart the app to trigger a fresh load of app.wire.com - just like a page refresh in a browser would do.

Would be great to actually disable this until they have revisited their update mechanism.
