Enable IOMMU?
Closed, InvalidPublic

Description

I noticed here (https://dev.solus-project.com/R1546:17c12ad803a6f7ac17d2a52681197e24401081cc) that IOMMU was disabled close to two years ago. I was wondering if it would be the time to try to re-enable it and see what happens?

I'm really looking forward to iGVT passthrough and would like to experiment with it in order to run games with near full performance in a Windows VM in the near(?) future.

Really? It's disabled?! I'm following. I can't use GPU passthrough currently because my i7-2600K doesn't support it, but it's something I'm very interested in, as you, in the near future.
EDIT: Yes, it's disabled in linux-current too unfortunately...

iommu is not disabled, iommu for Intel graphics is disabled because it is notoriously unstable, and has still failed to improve (yes, it has been tested).

If you really want to turn this option on (note its just disabled at boot, not in code) then pass this as your kernel commandline:

iommu=igfx_on

You can save it in a file like /etc/kernel/cmdline.d/intel_gfx.conf and run sudo clr-boot-manager update. Given that IOMMU is not disabled per the title (and wasn't even tested)
but only igfx is toggled off by default, I'm gonna close this as invalid. On account of it is.
