Helio Workstation

It's a very different DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) than what you already offer. It's more a composing DAW, but with a modern GUI and modern ways to handle what it does.
I believe this product would be very interesting for users on the music side.

I want this. lol.

I was starting to work on this, however the licenses could be very "interesting":

  • helio itself is GPL-3.0, but it relies on JUCE. On the GitHub page they say

Most JUCE modules are shared under the GNU Public Licence
(GPLv2, v3, and the AGPLv3). This means that the code can
be freely copied and distributed, and costs nothing to use
in other GPL applications. The juce_audio_basics,
juce_audio_devices, juce_blocks_basics, juce_core and
juce_events modules are permissively licensed under the ISC.

  • In addition to build the app we also need SDKs from Steinberg and on their page it says:

Please note that there are licensing agreements coupled with the use of development tools which you have to agree.
These agreements contain conditions and/or requirements which are mostly concerned with liability issues.

Please send the filled license agreement to the address that is given on the form, by mail or email it to info[SB]

So I don't really know how to handle this. In addition they only have one release from April and seem to work on master and develop branches.

As this task has been marked Needs Maintainer for a month with nobody having stepped up to become maintainer, in addition to providing an acceptable patch for inclusion, marking as WONTFIX. Feel free to re-open when a patch has been submitted via the proper processes.
