According to this page more than one implementation exist.
The openBSD implementation shows some signs of life, but I have no idea how different it is from the MirBSD implementation used in Debian

Recommend this package be "snapped". Will prevent many of the issues presented here. Looking into possibility of doing so. Stand by for update.
As requested, this is ineligible for inclusion. The mircpio upstream also contains alternatives for the tar and cpio commands. If it were to be included, I have zero doubt that people will get repeatedly annoyed that only pax is enabled and integrating it correctly to allow it to be a replacement for tar is out of scope. I'd also like to point out that Solus does not strive for strict POSIX compliance. If we did, GNU Coreutils and glibc would would be ineligible for inclusion.
