Should be a fun one to package, it's been dead since 2007.

According to this page more than one implementation exist.

The openBSD implementation shows some signs of life, but I have no idea how different it is from the MirBSD implementation used in Debian

Please find below a "package request" that is more conform to https://dev.solus-project.com/maniphest/task/edit/form/4/

Name of the software

pax

Project/product Homepage

http://www.mirbsd.org/pax.htm

Why we should include this into the repository, i.e. what does it do that the alternatives do not?

backward compatibility, some shell scripts are written using this utility

Is it open source?

yes

If it is open source, please provide a link to the most up to date, versioned source tarball/zipfile. master.zip links will not be accepted.

If there are no upstream releases but the inclusion policy is otherwise met, please provide a link to the source repository (i.e. GitHub)

https://github.com/MirBSD/mircpio

Recommend this package be "snapped". Will prevent many of the issues presented here. Looking into possibility of doing so. Stand by for update.

As requested, this is ineligible for inclusion. The mircpio upstream also contains alternatives for the tar and cpio commands. If it were to be included, I have zero doubt that people will get repeatedly annoyed that only pax is enabled and integrating it correctly to allow it to be a replacement for tar is out of scope. I'd also like to point out that Solus does not strive for strict POSIX compliance. If we did, GNU Coreutils and glibc would would be ineligible for inclusion.
