I tried to print with the HP LaserJet P1008 in the office this morning. It is recognized as P1008 but there is no driver available.

Please install hplip and confirm if that resolves the issue @baimafeima. Installing hplip for HP printer support is fairly standard practice.
I have hplip installed but it still doesn't print. I wonder if this is an obscure model (only sold in China?) for which no standard drivers exist? But apparently, colleagues got it to work under Windows.
According to the release notes, this model of printer is supported since version 2.8.6b but I saw on many forums that the proprietary hp driver is broken. Here and here (comment #22) you may find some tracks to solve your issue.
Another solution would be to use the foo2xqx driver.
@kyrios123 Thanks so much for helping me to track the printing issue down. Would it be possible to have the foo2xqx driver (it seems to be easier to try with this than the other suggestion) included in the Solus repository so I could install from the solus-sc? http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/foo2zjs.tar.gz
@baimafeima I don't know. First try to see if it's easy to install. They advise to install the drivers directly from their site instead of installing them from a distribution repository so maybe they provide a simple installer?
Otherwise make a package request because I am not a member of the Triage Team
