I have a 1070 and currently the open source drivers can't do anything with it and the proprietary drivers are not functional

Would be really awesome. I am using the latest official driver on solus and no problem so far.

Any word on this? It would seem anyone with Pascal is just out of luck currently :/

https://solus-project.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2097 There's mention that there's some sort of integration issue with newer drivers and Solus. Would anyone mind detailing what specifically the issues are?

I'm not sure how well the mainline .run package from NVIDIA integrates, but my short use of it on Solus didn't really show any issues.

No. Latest short-lived branch is 370.28.
