Roccat-tools issue.
Open, NormalPublic

Okay so I have a Roccat Nyth, installed roccat-tools, then roccat-tools-nyth. (or should I just install the nyth bit? I'm not sure) and I got this error:

Could not open file /dev/hidraw1 for device key hidraw0: Permission denied

Looking around for a fix I found: it looks like one has to add themselves to the group roccat for it to work properly? So I tried the command in roccat-tools manual, and that got me:

usermod: group 'roccat' does not exist

Little bit of help please?

You've probably figured this out by now, but for folks who are currently having problems with this package:

  1. It doesn't create the "roccat" group upon install. That's why you get that error telling you roccat group doesn't exist. You have to create the group yourself and then add yourself to that group. issue command:

sudo groupadd roccat

To create the group. Then:

sudo usermod -a -G roccat yourusernamehere

To add yourself to the group.

  1. It doesn't create the "/var/lib/roccat" folder with the right permissions as required per Stefan Achatz: Without that, you'll get a permission denied error message any time you try and save your settings. Run the following commands:

sudo mkdir /var/lib/roccat
sudo chown root:roccat /var/lib/roccat
sudo chmod 2770 /var/lib/roccat

Now logout and login, unplug and replug your roccat devices and roccat tools should work. Hope this helps someone. Those issues should definitely be ironed out; the package should create the required roccat user group and /var/lib/roccat folder upon install. I'd do it myself, but I'm almost a total linux newbie.

That procedure works, I can configure my Kiro as intended, thank you. I didn't investigate further because it wasn't an important matter.

We either need to change the group to something else or use qol-assist to add users to the group.
