Update to Mate 1.18 breaks firefox "open containing folder"
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Steps to Recreate:

  1. Install Solus MATE edition
  2. Open firefox, download any file | downloads toolbar button | open containing folder button. You'll see that this works on the clean install
  3. Open software, install all updates (this includes updates to mate 1.18 and an update to firefox)
  4. Reboot, open firefox | downloads toolbar button | open containing folder button

Expected: Caja should open

Actual: Firefox completely hangs

I don't know if this is a bug with firefox, mate or dbus, but I was able to work around this with the workaround mentioned in this bug report (comment 11)

I also experience this complete hang using Firefox on an updated Solus Mate with Mate 1.18. I had to force restart and fortunately no files or Firefox tabs were lost. @ikey Hope you can fix this soon, thanks!

I did the following tests each time from a fresh system of Solus-2017.01.01.0-MATE.iso

Test 1

  • Update Firefox to version 52.0.2 -> OK

Test 2

  • Update Caja to version 1.18.1 -> cannot start firefox
  • Update Firefox to version 52.0.2 (so both, Caja, Firefox and their respective dependencies are updated) -> NOT OK

@kyrios123 caja 1.18.2 is about to be synced, so give that a try.

Unfortunately caja 1.18.2 didn't help :(
I guess it will be very hard to identify the problem, especially since it might be linked to dbus.

This looks like it's fixed for me. After downloading a file, I click the downloads button and press "open containing folder" and it opened in the background with no freeze. It could be improved to open the folder in focus above the Firefox window, but otherwise it's working fine for me!
