I don't really see what this can add that isn't already available with existing, shipped and available terminal emulators and shells. I'd suggest you tweak gnome-terminal, use roxterm, tilda, etc.

  1. Our existing terminals emulators already have 256 color support.
  2. Gnome Terminal already emulates xterm.
  3. Gnome Terminal already enables you to customize the colors.
  4. You can already do scrollback tweaking.
  5. You can already have notifications upon things completing in the term and use a multiplexer like tmux for other visual indicators.

@JoshStrobl will it be possible to reopen this task?

even though I agree that gnome-terminal and the others are configurable I think that Terminology has a lot (well, figuratively speaking) features that the others can't or cant come close to.

here's the youtube video: https://youtu.be/ibPziLRGvkg

Late to the party, but I would be interested in Terminology as well for the same reasons @miwilc teased. Terminology can play videos right into the terminal for instance, which can be very handy combined with the usually powerful features of terminal emulators like tabs, keybindings, borderless resizable windows, transparency, etc. Perhaps other terminals in the repository can do it too now, but I failed to find how this could be done.
