Nautilus Resets Views
Closed, ResolvedPublic

Description

After the last update a day or two ago, which included a nautilus update, all folders have been reset in terms of the sort order as a result of the update of Nautilus.
Current version: GNOME nautilus 3.22.2

Current fix: set each folder individually to preferred sort.

You don't need to do that. Go into Nautilus' preferences and and click the Sort folders before files.

Yes, am aware.

My issue is that these were all reset after the the last update. An update should not reset settings or views.

My current view defined up until the update was Type, which gives me A-Z Folders, then A-Z Files.
The update reset all folder views to A-Z {which is by name, regardless of files or folders.)

Sorry but an update should not do this on what has been pre-defined

So I'm gonna reopen this and see if there is anything we can do about setting it as a Solus default in our Nautilus package.

That sort type is my preferred view, cannot say for anyone else.
I think it would need to be checked to ensure views are not reset if nautilus or any component of it is updated, it shouldn't.

Others may have their own preferences.

Not entirely sure the viability of that without patching Nautilus itself. Probably for @ikey to chime in with his thoughts :)

Checked and there's no option for setting folders before files in gsettings, at least in 3.24.0. I'll check again in 3.26.0, but if there still isn't then not much I can do.

There is for sorting, this issue was for Nautilus resetting views after an update
Top Left Menu:
Preferences / Views
Sort: Folders before Files

Setting this option and then Sort by "Type" from the right menu options, resolves the sorting for a particular folder and its contents, But there is no global change, this has to happen on a per folder basis.
Main concern was that Nautilus was resetting views from being updated, my belief this should not happen, unless it was real deep down core files.
