Lid closure does not cause screen lock
Closed, DuplicatePublic

If you close the laptop lid without any external HDMI connected, it doesn't revert to the lock screen. (Of course, if an HDMI is connected, this is reasonable because maybe you just want to work from an external monitor without needing to enter your password again.) Moreover the OS seems to go to sleep, so the normal X-minute timeout doesn't ever kick in. You can just leave the lid closed for hours, and return to find yourself still logged in.
