Name OpenToonz

Why should this be included in the repository?

2D animation software that was used and co-developed by Studio Ghibli since Princess Mononoke. OpenToonz was updated to be suitable for production and open-sourced last year.

We already have Synfig for Solus which is great, but it isn't focused on hand-drawn animation like OpenToonz is.

Is it Open Source yes

How many users do you anticipate will use this software? Not many, it's a dying art :( but this might help!

There are additional features developed for OpenToonz that could be included, namely GTS, which is a scanning tool specialized for hand-drawn animation frames, and the Plugin Utilty for creating effects plugins such as their own.

Willing to maintain, not sure how much time I will have though, might not be hopefully this year.

@sootstone were you able to make any progress on this?

after trying to build it, I found that two of its dependencies are not in the repo: SuperLU, Lzo2.

I also found an appimage of it, so we can use it on solus for now. Though it would be better to have a native package.

You can submit patches for the missing dependencies referring to this task since it has been approved

Should have time this month to package OpenToonz plus those two dependencies, will update with progress here.

This has sat in accepted for inclusion for over a year now. Clearly, there is a lack of demand for the inclusion of this software, nobody has stepped up to provide a patch, maintain it, and properly integrate it. Closing as a result. Feel free to reopen (@sootstone ) but only when providing a patch via our proper patch submission methods and volunteering to be maintainer.

Apologies for posting in this closed thread, but unfortunately I do not have the knowledge nor time to maintain this package currently. I still feel it would be a valuable piece of software to include as there is currently no alternative in the repository. I may be able to look at it again in the future.

Lzo2 is in the repository, so it is only SuperLU that also needs to be packaged.
