The Update section in Software Center does in fact report when the task is finished and our daemon notification goes into Raven, where it belongs, where the user is expected to clear out notifications.

There was some early issues with updating not reporting the task being finished, however that was since resolved, so that'll be in the updates you did. I'd suggest rebooting.
