"DevedeNG is a program to create video DVDs and CDs (VCD, sVCD or CVD), suitables for home players, from any number of video files, in any of the formats supported by Mplayer. The big advantage over other utilites is that it only needs Mplayer, Mencoder, FFMpeg, DVDAuthor, VCDImager and MKisofs (well, and Python3, PyGTK and PyGlade), so its dependencies are quite small."

Why? Provides a simple way to create video DVDs and CDs from video file(s) without the need for an entire video editing application.

Isn't Brasero already capable of this?

No Brasero can't do what DeVeDe does. When DeVeDe is done converting and creating the image it uses Brasero to write it to disc.

Hours after fighting with this program and its dependencies, I can't make it completely work because of dvdauthor (misses CD/DVD stuff, basically the 80% of the functionality), which cannot be added because:

  1. It uses a documentation builder that latest release was from 2007 (docbook2X).
  2. It depends in a old version of ImageMagick libraries (the program needs 5.x but we have... uhm... 7.0! And it shows a warning if you are still in 4.0).

Ironically the programs seems to be well maintained (latest commit is from 18 days ago), but those issues make this impossible to me to make Devede NG completely work.

I'll raise an issue to the creator pointing those problems as soon as possible :)

Since this was last looked at dvdauthor has been added to the repos. The other two issues of dockbook2x and ImageMagick I do not see listed in the dependency list.
