Language Support settings missing in MATE control center
Closed, WontfixPublic

Description

The language support settings are missing in the control center of the MATE edition. It is important for me that I can apply Ibus system-wide. Always having to start it manually is quite troublesome and putting it in startup applications doesn't solve the problem as this will always load Ibus settings which I have to click away upon startup.

Any updates about this for the new MATE ISO?

The function of Capture is unique to Ubuntu and it can not be applied to Solus.
(Apart from that, Ubuntu flavors has im-config provided by Debian)
In order to solve this problem Solus MATE's unique IBus implementation would be necessary...

It is true that a language item in the control center would be welcome !!!
I guess changing the locale and set LANG to the desired language should work, shouldn't it?

@balloon Do you know of any packages that are currently missing to achieve this? I am not sure how other non-Ubuntu-based distributions using MATE have solved this.

@baimafeima have you tried adding

ibus-daemon -drx

in startup applications instead? this way it should start as a daemon without loading Ibus settings to click away upon startup.

@i42870 I am not using Solus MATE at the moment, so I cannot confirm whether your suggestion works. In any case, I hope it won't be necessary to adjust this manually and I will reinstall Solus MATE once the IBus issue is sorted out. I'm not sure whether it's on the roadmap for Solus 4 though.

As announced in our Solus 4.4 blog post we are deprecating our MATE edition and so this issue will not be addressed.
