Why?
I only need the m17n for IBus for its pinyin with tone marks implementation which is not available anywhere else. The only other solution would be to work with macros (https://dev.solus-project.com/T1421) or to port a Windows program (such as Pinyinput: https://www.pinyinput.net/) to Linux.

Another alternative could be https://github.com/fcitx/fcitx-m17n but I am not sure whether it has the same "pinyin with tone marks" implementation.

Last release was 4 years ago and last commit was 2 years ago. I think it's fair to say this is unmaintained and not eligible for inclusion.

What about the fcitx alternative?

Changing status to open. For the following reasons:

  • The current ibus setup does not have any support for inputting Indic languages (e.g. Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali etc). There are some bespoke tools for linux floating around, but nothing as established as ibus.
  • Although initially declined because the package has not been updated in the last 2 years, I would like to propose a waiver for this based on the fact that:
    • It is in use on Ubuntu, Fedora and openSUSE which satisfies the 2 distro policy.
    • It is a useful tool allowing language input for almost all the established Indic languages, which I feel is a strong case for the function requirement of the package inclusion policy.

We had a completely different software policy when this was requested. That's why it was rejected. I will take another look.
