Function similar to Ibus, but I'm just more used to Fcitx rather than Ibus. No need to rush here, Ibus is usable too.

Given our IBUS support directly in Budgie and plans for supporting IBUS IMEs, I don't particularly see a usecase for this and would rather we improve our IBUS situation.

But I can not type in Vietnamese on Aegisub with Ibus, I can just type in Vietnamese on Aegisub with Fcitx, please add Fcitx in Software Center, or bug fixes can not type in Vietnamese at Aegisub with Ibus.
And I do not like using Icon Task List in panel, but when I remove Task List Icon and use Task List, I can not pin to panel.
And i can not install vmplayer.

ibus-unikey is the official Vietnamese IME for ibus and it has already been packaged. I suggest you try that. fcitx is not supported by Budgie, so you can't just install it and have it work.

And I do not like using Icon Task List in panel, but when I remove Task List Icon and use Task List, I can not pin to panel.

  1. Icon Task List provides both the pinning and window switching. You can't have one without the other.
  2. Budgie specific issues should be filed on Github instead of Phabricator: https://github.com/budgie-desktop/budgie-desktop

And i can not install vmplayer.

  1. You should be opening a new Task for an unrelated issue
  2. We use systemd which does not work out of the box with Player. You will need to set up the services as described here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VMware#systemd_services

I avoid taking sides in the fcitx v.s ibus debate, but hope to include fcitx in the repo.

I don't particularly see a usecase for this and would rather we improve our IBUS situation.

IBus based Chinese input methods have been torturing me in budgie (it worked fine in Mate or i3wm though). Reading multiple issues in Phab and in Budgie's github repo, I don't think I'm the only one having problem with ibus.

fcitx is not supported by Budgie

Through experiments, I think fcitx does work in budgie. All I needed to do is to disable keyboard shortcuts that turns on ibus im. Although budgie automatically starts a ibus-daemon, it doesn't seem to interfere with fcitx. In addition, fcitx works well under other window managers available in solus, too.

In short, I think fcitx provides reasonable alternative for people experiencing problem with ibus, or prefer fcitx for other reasons.

ibus is buggy, please add fcitx as an alternative. Thank you in advance.

While I understand that only core team members are supposed to re-open tasks, the status of ibus for Asian users remains miserable, as I tried again on my kid's laptop (yes, it's a solus setup) a few weeks ago.
I'm sure there are more than a few users having problem with ibus. There is not a workable solution, and correct me if i'm wrong, there is no solution on the roadmap.

On the other hand, fcitx works now. I have a set of packages that build, work, and (almost) ready to submit.

Yeah I'm a little miffed they did that. @hashhsah I'm accepting this under the condition that you are willing to maintain and test it.
