Description

The test has concluded. Please follow these steps to switch back to linux-current:

# Update your system packages (be sure to check the topic in #solus-dev to make sure this is safe to do)
sudo eopkg up

# Remove linux-next package (which will also remove any -next kernel modules)
sudo eopkg rm linux-next linux-next-headers

# Switch back to linux-current kernel on your next boot
sudo clr-boot-manager set-kernel com.solus-project.current.6.0.9-221

Event Timeline

ReillyBrogan renamed this task from Linux 6.0 Testing to Linux 6.0 Testing and Feedback.Nov 6 2022, 3:35 PM

On my Chuwi Minibook X, based on Intel reference boar, with Jasper Lake Celeron N5100 I got no problems, as well as some driver problems got fixed. Power consumption improved considerably, but also the performance is lower, they must have tuned the governor. WiFi and BT headphones work just fine with Intel AX201.
Same on my Zen+ PC with B 450 chipset and RX 480

I think we have a good representation from AMD and Intel now. If we could get some reports from people using LUKS with Nvidia cards (IE that unlock the system at boot), as well as people using Flatpaks and Snaps (especially how they work with AppArmor confinement) that would be the most useful to me right now.

All working fine.

Flatpak and snap store are working very well. Especially snap-store is loading faster and no weird output in terminal.

Nvidia here, booted with no issue, no error from journalctl, spotify (snap) is working fine.

For completeness' sake I'm going to add my info here as well: Have been using the new kernel for a week or so now. Everything works splendidly. Packaging/compiling, browsing, audio/video playback, some gaming (native + Steam Proton), and light flatpak use.
This is on a Nvidia GPU, but no LUKS (unfortunately)

Please ignore the kernel version, I have been troubleshooting some stuff. Computer booted just fine, try launching every single app installed. Everthing run except :

  1. Legend of Runeterra. Installed via Lutris with lutris-lol-5.0 and gamescope. On 6.0 Wine spits out "critical error", tried run without gamescope, with another wine version. No luck

  2. Libreoffice Draw. Installed via eopkg. On Unstable it spits out below. Irrespective of kernel version. Rolling back packages solve the problem

    .

I have the same error reported by @malfisya with Libreoffice Draw but the problem is also present with kernel 5.15. Also Libreoffice Impress wont start but Writer and Calc are ok. Running eopkg check returns no error. I think we should open a new issue for LO.

Text of error message:

loading component library <file:///usr/lib64/libreoffice/program/../program/libsdlo.so> failed at /home/build/YPKG/root/libreoffice/build/libreoffice-7.4.2.3/cppuhelper/source/shlib.cxx:310.

You are sure that this issue is present ONLY in 6.0, and not 5.15?

ReillyBrogan triaged this task as High priority.

Yes, I tried launching it on both kernel 5.15 and 6.0. Both of them on unstable repository with same packages installed. Though I found similar issue on reddit 1, 2, 3 without obvious solution. The common denominator is all of them are on kernel >5.15. This is not critical for me as I will just use LTS kernel moving forward

Just curious, is there a reason you're using such an older version of Wine? I imagine that lutris-lol-5.0 is quite old in the tooth at this point, there may be a build that works better from wine-ge?

Anyway, thanks everyone for testing. No showstoppers have been reported so I'll be updating current to 6.0 some time after the sync happens this weekend.

Once that happens I'll post instructions here for how to safely update and how to best remove linux-next from your system. Please be sure to read this thread before updating your system especially if you are using Nvidia drivers.

So far that's the only version than can run LoR on my machine. Also most of my Steam games easily run on proton 5.11, I don't know why (Journey, Bioshock). While Epic Games' games run on latest wine from repo (also I don't know why). It's an old machine.

So here are the instructions on how to switch back to the current kernel:

# Update your system packages (be sure to check the topic in #solus-dev to make sure this is safe to do)
sudo eopkg up

# Remove linux-next package (which will also remove any -next kernel modules)
sudo eopkg rm linux-next linux-next-headers

# Switch back to linux-current kernel on your next boot
sudo clr-boot-manager set-kernel com.solus-project.current.6.0.9-221

Note that I forgot to add the removal of the kernel headers package linux-next-headers. I've updated the instructions.

The last command shows me the error, I guess the "current" is not "6.0.9-221"?

@minhhut Are you not using the Unstable repository? In case of the Stable repository it would be com.solus-project.current.5.15.77-219, but of course that means a revert to kernel 5.15

After executing two commands after a reboot, 6.0.7 is loaded anyway, while USB stopped working. I choose 5.15 manually. How do I transfer to 6.0.9?

UPD.

I set 5.15 by default.
If I go back to 6.0.9, do I need to connect a test repository?

Hmm. I guess I didn't take into account that people on stable were trying out the 6.0 kernel. I appreciate the additional testing, but I think the best option for those of you who have gone that route is to just switch back to the 5.15 current kernel for now. The sync will be bringing 6.0 to you soon enough.

For those of you on stable, follow the normal steps but replace the last line with this:

sudo clr-boot-manager set-kernel com.solus-project.current.5.15.77-219
