Why we should include this into the repository, i.e. what does it do that the alternatives do not? / Who and how many users do you anticipate will use this software?
It is a much more efficient screen sharing method for capturing intensive games than the usual Window Capture method. I admit I am probably the only one who will ever care about the inclusion of this package. But I've been trying to build it myself for weeks with no avail so this is a last resort for me..other gamers out there may appreciate its inclusion as well who knows.
It comes included on GloriousEggroll's Nobara distro as well. The only way I can currently get it on Solus is with Steam and OBS Flatpak which isn't exactly ideal.

Is it open source?
Yes https://github.com/nowrep/obs-vkcapture/archive/refs/tags/v1.1.3.zip

A stretch request I suppose but I've really been wanting this for a while, it's a very small and simple package/plugin, I was repeatedly getting discouraged trying to build it myself.

I'll leave it up to Staudey as he is the maintainer for obs-studio currently. He can decide whether this plugin should be integrated into the main package, seperatly or rejected all together.

Nobara integrates this and a better vaapi support into the main package, maybe we could do the same?

Yeah, gonna take a closer look at this with the 28.0.0 obs-studio update, if I don't find time before that.

For now I have decided not to integrate it into the main package, but simply to provide it as a separate install. Might reconsider in the future. I was just happy to finally get it to work, after realizing that I had the big dumb (and also that it needed nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to work, but that was the minor issue ?)

thank you. i sent a donation to the opencollective. (high fives entire team) (high fives Staudley & Ebon twice)
